Preservation of cultural heritage in an innovative way

The Challenge Fund also supported the project for the preservation of cultural heritage in a completely new way with non-refundable funds. It is the project "ZMIJANJE.design" of the IMAGINARIUM studio from Banja Luka, which preserves the “Zmijanje embroidery”, which has been included on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2014.

"Through the project, we worked on the digitization of embroidery patterns, education of embroiderers, designers and artists who worked on creating a range of attractive products of modern form that can be ordered worldwide through the online platform www.zmijanje.design. Except through the platform, everything was presented at the exhibition and fashion show, which were well attended. In this way, an example was given of how to preserve cultural heritage in an unusual form, but which certainly has a stronger impact than established approaches", says the owner of the IMAGINARIUM studio, Aleksandra Ivanković.

The value of the project is about 50,000 BAM, of which the participation of the C2C fund was about 38%.

“Thanks to the support of the C2C fund, we have defined some of the basic guidelines for establishing the business of IMAGINARIUM Studio. A platform has been created, models tested, now only hard work remains with constant improvement. Without such support, many entrepreneurs would find it difficult to decide to embark on a development investment or realization of an idea. Also, when you encounter obstacles, it is harder to give up, because you have certain obligations to fulfil, and yet there is a whole team of people to support you to get out of the problem. Every entrepreneur should go through such programs at least once to learn to approach work in different ways”, Alexandra points out.

IMAGINARIUM Studio is a studio for design, artistic and research work that primarily deals with the production of high-quality clothing from natural materials. It was founded in 2017 in Banja Luka with a predominant craft activity. In the City Administration, over ten artistic and old crafts that are performed within the studies were specially recorded. It currently has one employee, with permanent engagement of external associates. The target market is foreign, with an emphasis on the EU, America and Japan. Special business results are mostly a product of participation in the C2C project, where IMAGINARIUM Studio and the project ZMIJANJE.design have gained great popularity at the level of BiH in a very short period and are slowly breaking through the borders of the region.
